Live looping fun continues this week. In the background I'm working on several albums and collaborations. But in the meantime, these little live looping sessions have been refreshing. Kind of like a delicious mid-afternoon snack.

Like the piece from last week, I'm using a bunch of voices from my OP-1. Some of my own, some others that aren't. The chain I'm running is:

OP-1 into Generation Loss into blooper into Specular Tempus.

In this workflow I start with simple melodies, using blooper to randomize things a bit. Then I keep experimenting and layering. Specular Tempus reverb does a phenomenal job of adding space and giving simple synth voices depth and dimension. The OP-1 doesn't have fabulous synth voices and the effects are very quirky and sometimes not so useful. But as a quick way to dial in an OK synth voice, it's so so fun. And then you run that voice into really great effects such as I do in this video and it makes me question the desire for a big, beautiful analog synth. I'll probably get some one day soon anyway, but I mean this sounds pretty good and the workflow is so pleasurable!

One note about the Generation Loss. I'm still getting to know this effect, but damn it's useful. Especially in a workflow like this where I'm trying to create sounds that will occupy a pretty specific sonic space. The filtering alone helps with this. It's a really nice set of filters. But the addition of the wobbliness and the ghostly character of the generation loss algo are just criminally easy.

As always, if you like what I do, please like and subscribe and follow me on Bandcamp and support me by buying some music!

Sycamore Willow San Francisco, California

I love making murky music -- ambient, drones and even songs with beats. I use effects pedals, tape and other fun toys to design sounds and textures to create dreamy atmospheres. I'm forever making the soundtrack to an imagined film.
